Guidance
My name is Elia Herrera and this is my fourth year serving as a guidance
counselor. I earned an M.S. in Counseling from Stetson University and a certificate in Play
Therapy from the University of Central FL. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a
National Certified Counselor I have two wonderful children, both of whom were
students at John Young Elementary.
I provide individual and small group counseling in any area a child may be experiencing
difficulty and visit the classrooms regularly to provide lessons focusing on character education and social
skills. I believe that a student's behavioral and learning challenges must be understood
and dealt with within the framework of the family. When a student realizes that his/her
parents are working with the school the student begins to feel supported and tends to be more
successful. I am always available for families seeking help with transitions and everyday
